For many travelers, K-beauty shopping is part of the Seoul experience: seeing Korean packaging, exploring products and deciding what is worth taking home.

Myeongdong is a practical place to start that experience. The official Visit Seoul guide describes the district as a shopping area with cosmetics stores alongside fashion, food and other retail. Yet the most useful first question is not “What should I buy?” It is “Which store am I going to, and how will I make a good choice once I get there?”

This guide uses retailer and tourism sources checked November 1, 2026. It is a research guide, not a report of a branch visit, product test or current price inspection.

Start with the right Olive Young location

Myeongdong has several Olive Young branches with similar-looking names.

The retailer’s official listing for Olive Young Myeongdong Town identifies:

Official listing detailMyeongdong Town
Address1–2F, 53 Myeongdong-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul
Suggested station approachMyeongdong Station Exit 8 or Euljiro 1-ga Station Exit 5
Published store hours at source check10:00 a.m.–10:30 p.m.
Services listedTax refund, Smart Return and easy payment

The retailer also lists a different branch called Olive Young Central Myeongdong Town at 27 Myeongdong 8-gil, M Plaza, occupying basement-to-upper retail floors. Do not confuse these branches when saving a destination pin or checking opening hours. The names and listings are not interchangeable.

The hours were listed November 1, 2026, not guaranteed for future holidays. Recheck the official store page before going.

Choose a shopping mission before a shopping basket

Decide which shopping mission fits you before filling a basket:

  • Replace an everyday essential: a product type you already understand and actually use.
  • Explore a category: for example cleansing, moisturizers or sun care, without assuming a popular product suits your skin.
  • Bring gifts: items with clear labeling and an appropriate package size for the people receiving them.
  • Discover something new: reserve some budget for exploration, but treat unfamiliar claims as information to investigate, not proof.

A short list is more useful than chasing every “must buy” reel. Popularity does not prove suitability for your skin or allergies. This article makes no skincare efficacy claim.

Exact productFull name, volume and variantA similarly designed package may contain a different formulation or amount
LabelIngredients, usage directions and relevant warningsHelps you identify suitability questions before travel home
Shelf priceActual price for that exact unit todayPromotional signs and online offers may apply to different conditions
Set contentsNumber of items and whether a gift is includedPrevents comparing a bundle with a single unit as if they were the same
Tax-refund conditionsStore eligibility notice and applicable purchase conditionsA listed service does not guarantee every purchase qualifies

The official Myeongdong Town listing advertises a tax-refund service, but eligibility, documentation and refund procedure should be confirmed from the latest retailer/government guidance and at the counter. Likewise, an app coupon, membership price or limited promotion may require conditions not visible from a promotional headline. This guide does not publish a coupon code or promise a discount without verified terms and validity dates.

How to compare products without getting overwhelmed

Compare products in the same category by unit size, ingredients, price per unit, directions and warnings. If an ingredient is unfamiliar, research it separately.

You can also ask staff about product variations or where to find an item, while allowing for differences in language support and staff availability. The store’s official service list is a better basis for planning than assuming every branch offers identical consultations or tester access.

If you take pictures of packaging to compare later, respect any posted store photography rules and the privacy of other shoppers. This guide does not imply that photography or product sampling is unrestricted.

Make Myeongdong part of the trip—not the whole trip

The appeal of visiting a beauty store in Seoul is partly the setting. Myeongdong offers the possibility of combining shopping with food and a neighborhood walk rather than treating cosmetics as a stand-alone purchase mission. But check each restaurant or stall’s current hours and location independently; the district’s general reputation cannot guarantee that a specific business is open.

If you are arriving on your first evening, save the exact store branch and your hotel route before heading out. Be especially careful not to confuse Myeongdong Station Exit 8, which the retailer lists for Myeongdong Town, with a different exit you might use for your hotel. The closest-feeling destination on a map is not necessarily the same route.

Is Olive Young worth including in your Seoul itinerary?

If you genuinely want a K-beauty shopping experience, an officially listed Myeongdong branch gives you a concrete place to investigate. But whether a product is worth buying depends on its actual price, formulation, size and your needs—not on a photo of a crowded shopping basket.

Editorial takeaway: Choose the correct branch, make a short product list, inspect the current shelf terms and leave room in the day for the rest of Seoul. Shop for what you will use, and enjoy the experience of being there.

Only the places worth it.
